This was on hike in Durango (Horse Gulch) and I was struck by the difference in foliage when compared to the ones here. There were already seed pods which means these babies already bloomed. We were on Green Mtn this morning and that species of lupine is still blooming.
Oh, so they’re done and gone! Wow! Didn’t see the seed pods in your photos.
I really enjoy watching different plants bloom at different times in different places. What’s different? Love trying to figure it out.
I cropped out the pods because they weren’t in focus so felt distracting. These leaves are more rounded than the ones we have in the open space (they’re more narrow and maybe slightly longer).
I love lupines, too! Yes, there are lots and lots in the open space here and I admire them as I hike/run. The photo I posted came from the trails near my son in Durango, and those lupines have already bloomed and gone to seed. They’re a slightly different variety, I think, because the leaves are different. Are your lupines also blue/purple?
In Michigan we had lupines of blue/purple, white and pink! There was a place (Lac Labelle) we used to visit around the 4th of July each year where there was like a huge field of them, and they grew quite tall. Gorgeous!
Did you find this on a walk? Our the lupine in our native garden have been phenomenal this year! I hope this one is just taking its time…

One of my favorite flowers; do you have a lot of these around you?

Ah, that sounds absolutely glorious. I’ve seen white lupine but never pink. Here’s to the beautiful lupines!
