I’m struggling with this project. The voice keeps coming and going, or maybe it’s my confidence that’s ebbing and waning. Either way, it’s an unsettling feeling and not too conducive to cranking out the words. But I’ll try to forge ahead with the understanding that everything that comes out may be total and complete crap.
Yeah, just put stuff on the paper. You can fix it later.

I’m going to try to ignore that nagging voice and stay as true to the voice as I can. Do you just let the words pour out or do you edit/censor/control your storyline?

I guess a combination. I have a general idea about where things should go, but if the story takes me elsewhere, I follow.

Don’t sweat it. I agree with the “just keep going” advice. But I also think it’s okay to slow down and feel your way through the scene. Maybe if the voice isn’t there, what you’re really missing is conflict. It’s gotta be on every page!

You’re absolutely right. I spent some time writing notes on the characters and their conflicts, and now the story is moving forward again and feels right. Hooray!
