I wasn’t going to post my word meter so soon but my son insisted I should. He’s almost as proud of my increased word count as me!
Today I thought a little about how some writers have a muse, and I wondered what guides me and my writing. Some of today’s 1337 (but who’s counting?!) words were written on the computer at home, some in the eye doctor’s office, some in the hallway outside the men’s restroom while waiting for my son. I guess I don’t so much have a muse as an ability to focus in on the words in little chunks of time while sitting, crouching, standing, etc. in various locales. Not as romantic an image as a gossamer-winged muse, maybe, but definitely a useful talent.
Yey!

That whole “muse” thing is mystifying to me. Sure, it’s cute and all…but still. My inspiration comes mostly from forcing my butt into the chair and a stern warning to myself that I can’t get up until I produce some pages. But maybe that’s just me.

I’m with Melodye. Well, every now and then I get a very strong visual image that I can’t WAIT to write down, but usually I’m just listening, listening and sometimes it comes quickly and sometimes it’s so slow and word by word I want to knock myself out with a hammer.
But woo! you. Look at all those words.

Nope, I don’t think it’s just you Melodye. If I put my focus on the paper, then I will get some words down. And I try the stern warnings, too, but tend not to listen to myself very well. 🙂
And Dot, I know what you mean about the visual images. I get those, too, but not the characters talking to me. Yesterday I had to briefly ditch during my son’s appointment because I finally remembered something about a character I’d been struggling to remember. That time I got it on paper!
