Please understand I’m completely aware how dull it is to look at someone’s daily word meter posting. But at this point, the damned thing’s like a drug. I need to type in the day’s numbers just to see how much blue I’ve got. Must…have…blue! And maybe I’m like some Pavlovian dog, but the meter IS pushing me to get results. So if it ain’t broke, I’m not gonna fix it.
You’re excused, though, from reading about and commenting on my progress. I realize some things in life, like the neighbor’s baby videos or slides from the in-laws’ motorhome trip to Wyoming, don’t hold the same magic for everyone.
It is like a drug!
Must see Tracy’s blue!!!

I think writing a novel is a lot like having a baby. I’ve done both three times π When I was pregnant, every week I plotted the progress of the baby inside me and it is very exciting to me! I wanted to show everyone the ultrasound pictures and unlike some pregnant women, I didn’t mind people touching my belly to feel the baby move. There is a lot of pain, joy, sickness and wonder involved becoming a mother. It was all pretty cool!
I get the same feelings from writing a novel. Every day it is fun to see how far it has evolved and even though others may not appreciate how cool it is, I love it! There were days when I thought I couldn’t do it and days when it was just too hard, but in my opinion, it is a pretty amazing process, too.
Share away! Embrace your blue!

You’re right about the parallels between the two. Pregnancy and novel-writing are both definitely works-in-progress. I was very into being pregnant, too, and have weekly profile photos of me in a red, one-piece body suit. My mate would write whatever week number on my arm in lipstick and then take the pic. I was immense!
Now the kicking and movement and getting comfortable with the “new” characters is mostly in my head. π
