Today was a bit easier. A couple days ago I realized I need to compress this book’s time-line but it stressed me because I wasn’t sure how to do that. And I sure didn’t want to tackle that dilemma today when I’m trying to get in the habit of adding words every day rather than slash a couple thousand in one sitting.
So I pulled a Scarlett O’Hara and told myself I’d worry about that issue tomorrow. And then I just kind of picked a jumping off point and started writing. Those words came pretty easily. In fact, I might go add some more right now.
As of this moment, I have at least 469 more words in my story.
Hope the day was productive for you, too, my writing comrades.

Congrats on your words. I’ve been fastdrafting with blueboards. I took yesterday off (and did my final line-edits on my first novel) because I became angry at some of my characters… We all needed a breather so I could deal with the aftermath and find a way through the mess that the character created. π
I must decide. Work on WIP draft or craft a perfect query… *laugh*

That’s so cool you needed a time-out from your characters because you were angry with them. You know you’re doing a good job telling their story when that happens.
So did you opt for the draft or the query today?
(Thanks for stopping by.)

Today is the draft. Over 1000 words so far today. Over 32K total.
My days are also on/off/on.
I think I’m about done with my exploratory draft. My scenes were written out of order this time. But I now know the characters and plot. (I write organically.) I add a lot of words in the next draft/first revision and I want this YA to be under 50K. I hope, I hope.
Next week is storyboarding time, which is complicated because I have 3 viewpoints.
I wish you one of those ‘words flow through the fingers to the keyboard into a great story’ days. I hope it is one of those perfect days where the story needs no changes when revision time comes. Good luck. π

I loved reading about your process. I’ve never written scenes out of order for an entire draft, in fact it’s a big deal when I write just a couple that way. It sounds so brave and free. And 1000 words is excellent!
Thanks for the good wishes. I’m sending you those same thoughts as you work today.

My first YA (I’m now waiting for the ok from a crit partner to query) was written in order, so this draft is a new experience. And stressful.
I recognize a lot of people who are in on the jonowrimo challenge. (They never mentioned it on their LJs but they probably will.)
Congrats on your SCBWI sale. I’ll be looking for it.
Are you ever on Verla Kay’s Blueboards?
Good luck on your word count today.

Writing out of order was stressful? Darn, I was hoping it had freed you up because I’m trying to talk myself into writing that way. Or at least trying it.
Thanks for the congrats on my little article. It made me very happy to get that validation.
I’m Vinca on the Blue Boards but am not around as much lately. It’s a wonderful resource, though.
Guess I should get going on that word count. π

Writing is fun. The knowledge that my scenes are out of order is stressful, especially because I have no outline. Stephenie Meyers writes out of order, with an outline. So if you are thinking of writing that way, or feel the urge- go for it.
I asked a question on blueboards about out of order scenes. It is an interesting thread.
I’ll be watching for your word count. π
