I’ve fallen WAY behind on updating my word count but am so pleased with my progress that I just had to share:

I think I’ve definitely established a writing habit. I set a goal of 400 words per day but usually write a few more EVERY SINGLE DAY! (Well, I didn’t write one day this week but I did story mapping so I was working. Really. Truly).

How’s everyone else doing with their goals?

    Well, my goal was to send out my essay tomorrow. But I can’t quite get the last sentence right, so I’ll keep working on it until it’s perfect! 🙂

      I think if I’d set anything much higher I would’ve been overwhelmed and would not have written as much. It’s good to set the bar kind of low, I think.

  7. Story mapping counts!
    It will make revising easier.
    My goals?
    I did lots of thinking and working out plot and characters, but no ‘word count’. (plus 3 crits.) I’ll do better this week. 🙂

    • Yes, story mapping does count and you’re absolutely right it should help with revisions. If I hadn’t stopped to do that, I fear I might have written myself off a cliff.
      Sounds like you got lots done, Sarah. Plotting plus three crits?! Wow.

      • It takes me 8-12 hours to do a good crit, because I always read twice. I usually write up a 4-5 page summary and make notes inside the ms. (One of these only wanted a general read, so it was faster.)
        So I guess I did get a lot done. 🙂

        • I do thorough crits, too, which is why I was amazed you’d done three this week. And then to read you write a 4-5 page summary! Wow. Your writing partners are fortunate to have your commitment.

          • I enjoy doing crits. Feel free to contact me if you ever need an extra reader and I’ll see if I have time. I’ve done crits for 2 of your LJ friends.
            I live in an English book deprived country. I buy some books, but get much of my reading pleasure from friends’ mss. I am a fast reader, but read slower when reading friends’ stories.

              I’ve been hibernating as I work on revisions and am now coming back to the offer you made a couple months back. I know this is a totally crazy time of year for many people but wondered if you’d be willing to read my 37k-word contemporary MG ms. I think it’s in good shape but need another set of eyes before I send it off to my agent. (She’s waiting until after the first of the year to sub). Do you have time to give it a read and let me know if there are any glaring problems? I am, of course, happy to read whatever you need read, too. I give a solid critique.

                The holidays are slower paced overseas. Our shopping was completed a month ago–we have pouch mail and it can be very slow.
                I’ve been sick the last couple weeks, but am improving.
                I’m almost ready to sub. I’m tweaking my beginning chapters.
