Not only were there no juvenile faces and barely contained tantrums, there were no fractured sentences about how hard it is putting food on your family or shaking the hand of an Iraqi whose hand had been cut off by Saddam Hussein.
Change I can believe in.
I agree with all you’re saying here. Still…I hate that candidate auditions for one of the most powerful positions in the world are being norm-referenced against the actions and words of an idiot.

It’s pretty obvious Obama (and the Clintons and Gore) are so beyond Bush’s abilities to express himself, they’re not even in the same species.
McCain, on the other hand, will be norm-referenced against Bush. And he won’t come out looking any better.

I know!! Isn’t it exciting? Just think, the rest of the world might actually respect us for a change!

Such a concept! I was very pleased not only with the delivery of his message but the content. He sounded downright progressive!

Oops, Kelly. I’ve neglected my LJ and just realized I never responded…
I was impressed the other night PLUS I just read a portion of the speech that Doc posted and am feeling even better. Could we really and truly elect someone who thinks and feels?

You can watch the speech and read it here at the NY Times site: http://elections.nytimes.com/2008/president/conventions/videos/20080828_OBAMA_SPEECH.html
It was truly marvelous. I am feeling audacious enough to hope.

I’m so hoping Obama inspires good results in our next election up here too. His speech last night was a breathe of fresh air. We desperately need change here too – I’m sick to death of our toxic Conservative government. With an atmosphere of optimism so close by I hope Canadians will realize that re-electing Harper will be yet another step in the wrong direction.

Sorry for the LJ neglect and lack of response, Carolyn…
Yes, I think change inspires change (especially when we’re neighbors). I hope we throw off the draconian attitudes and start building for a future all around the world!
