Writing of a Different Kind

I haven’t been good about updating my progress on my JoNoWriMo goals.  For the record, I am writing.

However, not all writing has been fiction.

Last week I joined other volunteers at Democrats Work in sending out postcards to new voters, urging them to get out and vote.  My hand cramped up and my shoulders got tight, and I quit at 33.  Today, though, I wrote 55 postcards!

A couple weeks ago I felt guilty for not canvassing but now I’m happy I can be part of the effort without my blood pressure skyrocketing.  Plus, the competitive me enjoys the fact I can get through a list of 30 names faster than the other volunteers.

It’s the little stuff that keeps me going.

    • I’m writing more right now. Zebu just asked if it wouldn’t be easier to run off a bunch of notes on the printer and then hand-address the envelopes. I explained the power of personalization but he seemed dubious. He hasn’t yet experienced the onslaught of impersonal election-time mail.

    • Thank you, Lorraine. I’m just so glad I found a way to help that didn’t make me feel even more anxious. Plus, the stamps are really pretty (tropical fruit). I’ve gotta go finish this next list of people…

  1. I think you guys are really going to do it too! And millions of us up here will be celebrating with you! I can’t wait. It will be such an incredible, amazing thing to turn that corner.

    • I hear you on the millions celebrating with us and I’m thrilled about that but also ashamed that the US has earned such a horrible reputation around the world in the past eight years. Our crap has spilled across the borders and around the planet. Sigh.
Here’s to turning that ship around!
