You’ll need your imagination for this.
Number one on the list is imagining I have an awesome camera.

Okay, imagine a feeder filled with American Goldfinches.
Next, picture a much larger Flicker flying in to land on the feeder, scattering goldfinches.
Pause a split second as The Bravest Goldfinch of All returns to the feeder.
Imagine a couple more goldfinches tentatively returning.
Hop. Hop.
Count to ten and watch the Flicker fly off again as a mini-swarm of goldfinches,
brave and not-so-brave, returns.
Aw, I loved this post! We have a very similar finch feeder, and it’s swarmed by birds all the time. Until, that is, the mourning doves swoop in and land on the dish at the bottom. They’re very heavy, so they set that feeder swinging like a pendulum, and the finches go flying. Hurray for finches brave enough to reclaim their territory!

The doves sit in our feeder dish, too. I love how they hold onto the edge with their claws, swinging to and fro. It seems like a great way to spend time.
(That kitty face is too funny!)

Yep, with all the extraordinary bird photos out there, this one is pretty sad. But what the heck – it has a story to go with it.

No more getting up at 4AM to take a hike and find the birds? Just let them come to you and stare out the window? I think you’re wise beyond your years, my friend.

I’ll never say never to more early morning hikes but since it was only six degrees when I got up this morning, I’m happy with my feeder. And bucket of coffee.

That’s one full feeder!
It’s been cold here, too. It’s 3 degrees right now.

In case you’re referring to seed amount: we filled it this morning. But if you’re referring to birdage: some flew away when I crept out with my trusty Brownie.
(I hope it gets warmer there. Today it was 35 degrees and it felt balmy!)
