The thermometer reads 8 degrees
and I'm so very grateful for my warm home.
I filled the feeder this morning after shoveling
(a profanity-filled exercise due to steamed-over-eyeglass-induced blindness)
and am enjoying the flurry of activity out there.
The House Finches and Mourning Doves coexist peacefully
but there are some birds who never seem to fit in the the crowd.
Juncos are often chased from the feeder
but today's odd-bird-out is this Spotted Towhee.
Is it just me or does it look as if he's wearing an executioner's mask?
Dude, there might be a lesson there.
I’m not surprised those birds love you π (I’m very happy for my warm house too — as is the cat!)

I had to fill the feeder again this morning. They have to eat and eat in order to keep warm and have enough energy. I’m grateful I’m able to keep them in seed during these cold snaps.
(Cats are very wise that way.)

Oh Tracy, if I could give myself a special gift this year, it’d be to take photography lessons from you–focusing the lens on your beloved birds, of course, and critiquing the day’s efforts over tea. That would be so lovely.

You’re much too kind, Melodye. I don’t have any special photography skills but am blessed with a good lens and a digital camera that allows me to snap away. If I just keep clicking, I’m bound to hit on a couple good shots.
But I’d love to photograph birds with you and then have tea. It’s a date!
