I’ve struggled off and on with BIRD BRAIN,
sometimes feeling good about how it was shaping up,
but other times feeling it lacked a certain oomph.
I don’t want to invite the wrath of the universe by getting too confident,
but would like to document here that I believe I’ve finally cracked the code.
Now that I’ve let go of my preconceptions about length and format,
the story is flowing quite nicely.
And even better?
I’ve finally, finally found the narrator’s true voice.
I’m so very happy.
(Which does NOT translate to over-confident. You hear, Universe?)
And just because it’s cute, here’s a squirrel from Westcliffe:

Happy is good, and I’m certain the Universe would never take that for overconfidence. You’ve worked for it. I’m glad things are looking up.
And that is a very cute squirrel.

Thank you, Janet! You were one of the BIRD BRAIN votes when I solicited advice, and I appreciate you giving me a nudge in that direction.

What a great feeling you must have! I bet – no, I know – your book is going to be amazing when it’s finished!
Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about what the universe likes and how it decides to give its gifts and at the moment, I’m leaning toward believing it likes cockiness and arrogance. You and I, we are humble and we try to be virtuous, but maybe that’s for suckers.
Go ahead, tell the world you’re happy and that you’re made of awesome and you know it! I’ll try it if you will. But you go first.

Um, I think you should go first since it was your revelation and all. Or maybe we can hold hands and jump into that pool of Awesome together.
One, two, three…
(Thank you much for the support and kind words, Jennifer. It all helps on this crazy rollercoaster).

Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyy! Well done you, for persevering. If cocky means believing in your book and yourself, then I’m all for it.

I’m all for it, too. Thanks, Amy! Maybe we can bring a whole new meaning to “cocky.”
