I went out into my garden just now.
It’s not a pretty sight.
I’ve neglected it for the past couple months
as I focused on my writing projects.
Here’s Lamb’s Ear strangled with bind weed:
Yarrow upstaged by thistle:
Sunflower in a neck-and-neck race with incredibly tall thistles:
Yesterday Zebu came out in the front yard where I was busting sod,
a task I began a month or so ago.
I’m taking out a huge area of lawn to be replaced with rocks
and isolated plantings.
Zebu asked, "Do you expect to have this done by winter?"
I replied in the affirmative.
Zebu expressed some doubts.
"Not only that," I said. "But I’m also going to have the kitchen all painted
and finish my book."
He said, "Something won’t get done."
I said, "Well, it won’t be my book. I’m finishing that."
He went back inside,
and I dug out another piece of lawn.
“Well, it won’t be my book. I’m finishing that.”
It is as if the clouds parted and angels started singing. π

I hear you.
Since I start work again at the school day after tomorrow, I had a look at the long to-do list I wrote in June. A lot will be left undone. Ah, but the book – it’s finished. π
We know what’s important, uh-huh.

We definitely know what’s important.
You inspired me with how quickly you wrote and revised your book, Jennifer. Poop on that to-do list…you crossed off the number one priority!

Digging in the earth is at once therapeutic and symbolic, don’t you think?
It’s great that you have your priorities in order. That said, to everything, its own season and all that. The End arrives in its own due time, so you might want to loosen your grip on that yard implement. =:)

I love digging in the earth. It works out my kinks.
I’m not letting go my implement of destruction, though. Never know when I might need it! π

Definitely have my priorities in order. My kitchen is full of paint-sample patches, but I don’t care. I will care, however, if I don’t finish this book. So I must!

Good for you — I think you’ll get all of them done!

Hold that thought, Robin! I’d love to complete them all (plus a few more).

Are you digging up turf?
I think you can cover the area with a tarp, and the grass under it will die off and you can just turn it over… # 3 the Smother Method!

or I could buy everyone their very own shovels!
eta… of course writing is priority, we are writers! : )

I am, indeed, removing turf. And am applying the smother method as I go. I like to dig so I carve out my blocks and then cover the area with plastic. That kills it off and makes it easier to break apart. Thank you for the info, friend!
I like to sweat so am not adverse to doing stuff the hard(er) way. π

Good for you, Tracy! (Are you all sore and achy today? I hope not.)

I wasn’t achy and sore yesterday. In fact, I had one of my best runs in recent history yesterday morning. Busting sod agrees with me!
