Hair Today

Do any of you out there come home from the salon and put your head under the faucet so you can see what your new haircut will really look like in the hands of a rank amateur?   (You know, minus the products you never use, the blow dryer you never apply, etc.)

That’s my usual M.O. but today in honor of spring, my stylist threw me a curve:  after cutting my hair, she French braided it.

I don’t have the heart to destroy her lovely work.

Guess I’ll wait until tomorrow to discover the reality of this latest cut.

  1. I always leave my stylist’s work alone as long as possible! Because of the rank amateur thing. Although I’m beginning to suspect that I could style it similarly if I was up above it like she is, or if I could bend my arms that way.

    • Your logic is sound but I guess I never feel like me when I leave the salon since I don’t ever do any of that stuff.
Get going on those arm-bending exercises, Dot. Find that flexibility you never knew you had!

  3. Yes — I know what you mean! Mine usually looks okay in the front, but the back — grrr. Two brushes, hair dryer, curling iron, flat iron — it doesn’t matter. I can’t do it.
I bet the french braid is very pretty. πŸ™‚

  8. Well, I’ve had all kinds of experiences — you know the horrifying kind where they stick you under one of those hair dryers that looks like a helmet and then you come out of there looking like they actually stuck your finger in an electrical socket. And I’ve had my hair primped, curled, straightened, the works. And sometimes I’m running home to wash the goo out of my hair.
But yes, I’ve had a few Cinderella ones where I think Oh no, I’ll have to wash my hair and everything will turn back into a pumpkin.
And now i think, maybe I’m due for a hair cut!

  11. I USED to come home and wash my hair, I had a lot of very, very bad haircuts…..but the hairdresser I go to now fixes it the way I like it, not all poofy-sprayed and weird.. so I don’t wash it right away.

  13. Ooh! Yay for good cuts!
Sometimes I feel like saying, “Look sister. We both know that you have no idea how to style my hair, so why don’t we just save us both some time and let me walk out of here already, okay?”
But the optimist in me always think there’s an off chance she might get it right.
    Never.
I always have to wash. Grr…

  16. Yes! Not only do I rinse out my hair to see the actual result….but I can’t stand the gunk they leave in my locks (I’m more a wake-up-and-go kind of girl, sans “products,” as you can tell by my pixie cut).
