  1. I’m not familiar with that. Wow, it must be pretty powerful, if you’d want to have it with you on a desert island.
Hmmm, I’m listening to some Elvis gospel music right now, as inspiration for my writing. I’m not always tied to the lyrics, per se, but the music transports me to another time and place(s), plus it’s really beautiful. So I’d probably take that with me if I could.

    • It is powerful. There are albums I loved in high school (Badfinger STRAIGHT UP, for instance) but then listened to years later and thought the music was only so-so or even awful. But I loved HUNKY DORY then and love it maybe more now.
I got to know Elvis (musically speaking) when I bought my first car (’64 Ford Falcon Sprint) with an AM-only radio. Lots of Elvis on the AM dial! I grew to like him and I love gospel music, so I bet that’s a great combination.

  2. This is a good choice – I love Changes and am even more crazy about Life on Mars but I don’t know, that’s such a tough question. One of my favourite albums is The Queen is Dead but I wouldn’t want to get myself too depressed on that desert island. Workers Playtime is a definite. Another album I never seem to get tired of is If I Should Fall From Grace With God (The Pogues) and I suppose I better include something from hometown boys, Blue Rodeo. They have so many amazing records that choosing one is a panic. Just how many CDs would be be allowed on this desert island?

    • I don’t think there’s a rule about desert island CDs. It just hit me as I listened to HUNKY DORY that I don’t seem to ever get tired of listening to it. and of course Billy Bragg should be on the island. I keep meaning to get some Pogues so maybe this is where I should start. I’ll have to check out Blue Rodeo.
What would be really cool on my desert island is if I suddenly had the ability to play the guitar and sing. That would be a good use of my time!
