Mom in the Spin

We went to Westcliffe for my family’s reunion and this time I remembered to bring my beginner’s hoop, the oversized, extra-heavy, foam-covered hoop I learned with last summer.   Last month when visiting her, I’d only brought the lighter hoops and Mom was intimidated when the hoop kept dropping.

Not so this time around.  The (78-year-old) woman is a natural.

Here we are during one of our 45-minute sessions:

(I’m having major difficulties with uploading photos onto my LJ.  I can’t even get into Photobucket anymore and finally got this to work via TinyPic but it didn’t accept my custom cropping so you’re getting a much larger view of the car hood and much smaller view of Mom and me than I’d intended.  Not to mention how my LJ keeps giving me an “undefined” error message when I click on Insert/Edit Image.  Aargh!!!)

  1. I can’t get into PhotoBucket either! Also I can’t see pictures on my friends’ blogs half the time. (I can see yours.) Tech support hasn’t solved it yet.
I’ve decided to bypass PhotoBucket entirely and load straight into my Scrapbook.

    • I was so happy for her because when she got it to spin that first time (you know, keeping it going for about five rotations or so) she had the most beautiful smile on her face. I wish I’d gotten a picture of that.

  3. It’s still a very cool pic — I love how your hoop is floating around you πŸ™‚ (Also love the brilliant purple outfit — I have a ski jacket in that exact color ;).

    • It is a cool pic but maybe someday you can come over and see if you can help me figure out my photo troubles. I mean, you’re a computer genius….. πŸ™‚
I got teased for all my purple but it’s just a coincidence the shorts (which I’ve had since before Wildebeest was born and now have holes in them) match the shirt which just so happened to match my toenails.

      • LOL! (They say there’s no such thing as coincidence, you know ;)…and I’d love to come and help, though I don’t know how much I could do — but say the word πŸ™‚

  4. I guess I’m glad it’s not just me with Photobucket difficulties (I think). I haven’t had problems seeing friends’ photos, though. What’s that about?!

Is Scrapbook only on paid accounts? I have a basic account.

  6. Oh, I love seeing you and your mama hoopin’ it up!
I’m wondering if you can recommend websites about hooping…benefits, how-to’s, etc. Maybe I could be convinced to give it a try.

    • Oops, I completely lost track of your question, Melodye. Sorry. ):
There’s tons of stuff out there and I have a Hooping folder on my computer but it’s mostly YouTube videos I like and that I hope will help me learn tricks. I don’t have any specific websites. The bettyhoops foam hoop really is a great learning hoop but once you get past the learning stage, it’s not good for tricks. I bought two DVDs (Hoopnotica Hoop Dance Basics) to help with tricks and they’re good.
Mostly I’ve noticed a huge difference in my core strength (really feel it when running) and also a calmness when actually hooping (and afterward). Oh yes, and I’m also convinced it helps my creative thinking/processing because it helps connect the left/right brain. I know I sound evangelical but I truly think the world would be a better place if everyone who was able would hoop a few minutes each day.
