I don’t know what’s going on here today but I’m flicker-rich right now.
They’re hopping on my roof, sitting on my deck and fence, eating at my feeder, poking
at the ground, flying to and fro, driving my cat, Lebowski, mad.

Isn’t it gorgeous? I tried getting some but kept scaring them away so then I found this one on Google images.

Whoa! That’s so cool! Do you not normally get them? What do you think got them going today?

Yes, we do have flickers here. I’m just not used to seeing so many at once. And it wasn’t just the flickers being so active, all the birds were on the move today. Jays flying in and out, grackles and sparrows and towhees. We’ve had a real drop in temperature and there’s a front coming so I think that’s what is happening. But it was definitely different having all those flickers hopping on my roof and around my yard. A very cool view out my window.

Beautiful bird! Do you think they’re getting ready to migrate south?

I think that’s it, Barb. Plus, there’s a weather front headed our way. All the birds were a bit manic today, it seemed, so I think they’re getting ready. At least the flickers didn’t peck at my house the way they usually do! 🙂

They are beauties. Although I’m a little peeved with all the pecking on my roof right now. Grrr… 🙂

I love that photo! I wish I’d taken that photo but since I’m not that good, I’m glad Ryan Houston shared it so we could all enjoy it.

They were going crazy over here the other day — one flew into our window (well, two actually did — on two different days). Fortunately, neither seemed badly hurt (I’ve seen that kill a bird before).
But they were picking at the lawns and fluttering around the trees…must be something in the air 🙂

So it’s a neighborhood take-over! They were pecking on my roof yesterday but today they’re content to hang out on the deck railing and fence.

I have to admit — I think they’re beautiful birds, but when they wake me up early in the morning by drilling our house? Um…not as much of a fan 😉

I said something to my brother about how I loved flickers and he was amazed since they drive him crazy pecking at his house. I figure we all have our annoying habits, right?

That’s a good point 🙂 I wonder how many people I annoy the heck out of, and I’m not nearly as lovely as those birds, hehe.

Well, I know I annoy many people but my point was that we’ve all got our good and bad. And those flickers are so lovely. 🙂
