As mentioned (ahem) a time or two before,
I don't do well with the short, dark days of winter
and try all sorts of things to keep myself from
collapsing into a weeping sack of Tracy.
My current favorite weapon for deflecting the winter blues
is to do a 20-minute cardio workout on the treadmill
(walk, jog, stride, sprint, repeat x 4).
I know, I know…big deal, right?
Wrong.
I don't do the workout just any old time: I do the workout
so it coincides with the sun disappearing behind the foothills.
Why?
Because even though the sun is leaving me for the day,
I don't really mind because at that very moment my system is flooded with endorphins.

Take that, Winter!
Sounds like a great idea, Tracy! I don’t have a treadmill at home, but I think going to the gym in the late afternoon might have a similar effect. I need to adjust my gym time when I go back to work next week, so I’ll give that a try!

I think that’s a great idea to do the gym in the late afternoon. It just might give you that needed boost to get through to the next bit of sunshine!

What time tomorrow is the sun setting where you are? I’m in need of some endorphins AND companionship about now, so how ’bout we walk together…

Oh, no! I didn’t walk with you this afternoon. I’m sorry I missed that but hope you found some endorphins and companionship, Melodye.
I know your heart is hurting now and I’m sending a hug across the Rockies….

I do feel pretty wily for coming up with the system. 🙂 (Can you tell I’m still floating on today’s endorphins?)

Thanks for this tip. I can’t see myself using the treadmill while writing, but I can try adjusting my exercise time.

I haven’t been writing on the treadmill lately, either. The boys are on winter break and the treadmill is in their space so I moved the shelving upstairs where I can write without interruption. But no one interferes with my sundown-running time!
I hope you find this approach helpful, Barb-of-the-Great-White-North. 🙂

Exercise and a sunset sounds like a perfect picker upper. Here, when it’s rainy and gloomy, just getting outside and walking a good brisk walk is helpful to me in banishing the winter blues.

I do the same thing in the rain, Lorraine. Walk until I feel those gloomy feelings slipping away. I hope you get some sunshine very soon.
