Waste-Not Wednesday: Non-toxic Laptop Protection

I love my laptop.
I’m sure you love yours, too.

I wanted to protect my laptop
so went on Ebay and found a dandy cover
for just $9.99 and Free Shipping!
Sold!

That cover arrived and I tore open the plastic bag.
Whoa.
Massive chemical outgassing.
Gag-inducing neoprene nastiness
(I’ve since learned that neoprene won the Allergen of the Year Award in 2009).

Even after I aired out that sleeve in the sunshine for more than a week,
I still could not tolerate the chemical stench.

Fortunately, I found GreenSmart.

Among other cool products, GreenSmart offers a neogreene sleeve
and a laptop sleeve made from 100% recycled soda bottles.

No fuss, no muss, and even better, no stink.
Today’s tip:  do yourself, your laptop, and the planet a favor by supporting GreenSmart.

  1. Great suggestion, Tracy…I hate that gassy plastic odor!

On a related note…I feel like such a troglodyte, using my desktop computer, when most of my writer friends work from laptops. I love the portability, but man oh man, I can’t get used to the keyboard. Does that come with time and/or practice?

    • I think it’s best to work wherever feels right. My needs/wants change from project to project, and also during the process. I do longhand, laptop, desktop, depending on what’s going on.

It was a little adjustment getting used to the laptop keyboard and I’m actually surprised I can use it so easily since I have really big hands. But if a laptop doesn’t feel right to you, don’t force it. You can always carry a notebook and pen with you. Maybe Wildebeest will even do a drawing on the back of it for you!
