AGNES by Tony Cochran
I’m easily overwhelmed by the sheer amount of clean-up necessary,
in my kitchen cabinets and
underwear/sock drawer and
linen closet and
manuscript and
flower beds and
storage room and . . .
Let’s face it, I’m freaked out by the mess we’ve made of the planet.
So.
I’m taking it a little bit at a time
and dealing with my personal messes.
I’ve cleaned up the kitchen and vacuumed the upstairs.
Later I’ll clean up my manuscript,
and then I might reach for the backhoe.
But maybe I should hold out for a bulldozer.
Only two things will cause me to go into Cleaning Mode:
1. an impending move, where you need to get rid of all excess clutter and make it look clean for prospective buyers
2. a party
Aside from those kind of emergencies, no one really cares about your storage room and especially your sock drawer.

Oh, I know no one cares about any of those things. It’s more a matter of me feeling overwhelmed by the sheer amount of stuff and mess in my life and the world. Yesterday I felt the need to clean up a bit, but there was no pressure. My dream is to live in a Tough Shed with hardly any possessions. π

Agnes has the right idea — really, there’s not a lot we can do about messes elsewhere (usually), but if we can get our own messes under control, we’re on the right path π Good luck! (We’re slowly working on our messes this summer too.)

It’s nice to know you’re over on the other side of the hill, tidying your little corner of the world, too, Robin.

It’s too hot to clean. I’m trying to cut down on my use of air conditioning and it’s in the 90s today. Is that a valid excuse? Good thing the library is air conditioned. I spent a few hours working on WIP this afternoon.

Oy. It’s hard to be motivated to do much of anything when the temperatures are in the 90s. I give you huge credit for being up and about. Glad you got to the cool library and worked on your WIP, Barbara.

I find this project inspirational:

They go across country, picking up trash. They recently collected their 100,000th pound of it.
But I’m just happy when I manage to clean out a single drawer.

Thank you for that link, Jenn. I hadn’t heard about this project but it’s SO cool! I’m going to donate to the effort. And then maybe clean out a drawer. π

I’m going to be hiding in that fort in the corner of your basement.

The fort in the corner does seem like the best place to hang these days. Come on over…

Oh lordy, I can so relate…to the clutter, the manuscript make-over, and the wishing for a big-ass bulldozer that’ll scoop all the detritus outta my way.

Let’s go shopping for a matching set of big-ass bulldozers! That’s one shopping trip I’d enjoy.

π Oh, me too! Let’s make sure they toss in a picnic basket, custom paint job, and a sound system that blares our favorite music. I’d totally dig that, and you?
